Will this amp work with stock speakers in 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara?[ Scotty Jul 25, 2019 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
Are the inputs differential or single ended.? [ John Jun 05, 2019 ]
They are single ended inputs.
I have purchased the pdx-v9 and it has four mounting screws. I was going to mount this to a metal bracket under the passenger seat. The bracket itself is directly mounted to the seat bracket which is grounded. My question is whether I should attempt to isolate the amp on some medium such that it's chasis is not connected to ground? I've read that double grounding can have adverse effects. [ Lane Feb 24, 2018 ]
Grounded is grounded. Amp to wire to chassis or amp to chassis, same thing. You should run your negative wire from the terminal to the chassis but grounding the amp also is fine.
Yes, probably a good idea. I had the luxury of mounting my PDX-V9 on a 3/4 inch platform of 7 ply birch plywood, very nice to screw the PDX-V9 into. And I ran dedicated grounds to each amp (I have two) from a GND junction box to avoid any ground loops, which are just grounds that differ very slightly in their 'resistance' to a perfect ground thus set up a small noise current. (I'm an EE by degree.)
My amp is isolated all on its own-works and sounds great. If I were you, isolate the amp.
In my opinion I have always mounted amps isolated from any other ground source. Sometimes it will create a ground loop which occassionally creates a patch for engine noise. Not in every case but its possible so if you can isolate the amp chassis I would recommend it. Hope this helps
would this have enough power for a 2ohm 600 watt rms sub, specifically the Punch P3D4-12, since it's max'd out at 500 watt rms? [ chefbv Nov 22, 2017 ]
The 5th channel of the Alpine PDX-V9 provides up to 500 watts RMS so, it will not realize the full potential of the RF P3D4-12 (600 RMS) but it will still power it very well.
How do you bridge this amp if you are planning on using it for two full range speakers and one sub? [ Cornelius Aug 27, 2017 ]
The bridged configuration is covered on page 14 of the Alpine Owner's manual. You can download a copy of the manual by clicking the link for it under the 'What's in the Box?' heading on the amplifier's main webpage.I hope that helps. My Bio:https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan
Can i run the front and rears at 4ohms and the sub at 2ohms? and how bad of and idea is it to run a 600rms sub (Rockford Fosgate T110D4) with this amp since it is a 500rms sub channel (never really going to push the system) space is a real concern. [ Brian Aug 25, 2017 ]
That's pretty much the exact same way I'm running my system with competition speakers in the doors and the JL sub. In doing so I found that I had to dial down the amp for cooling and the competition alpine r types couldn't handle that much power anyway. I was looking for studio quality sound and nailed it.
yes you can run doors at 4 ohms and sub at 2 ohmssub should run just fine as well
Can I use the sub output to run an 8 ohm sub? If so, what will the power be? [ Luke Apr 13, 2017 ]
The higher resistance of the 8 Ohm sub will get about half the rated 4 Ohm wattage so; around 250 RMS. I hope that helps! My Bio:https://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
Will this amp work to push a 12' w7? It's a 3ohm sub. [ Brice Mar 02, 2017 ]
No, you need like 1000 watt amp. I love the 5 ch pdx, but it is only like 250 watts, not goona do much for a w7
Hi..will this amp be able to run an Alpine SWR-10D4 sub on the 500W RMS channel only efficiently? I have been told that i wont get the best quality out of the Sub as its rated at 1000W RMS...please help!!!! [ hugo Jan 13, 2017 ]
I forgot to tell you I am powering the same sub with a sundownaudio 1500RMS at 1 ohm, currently on a two ohm load feeding 800 watts to the sub. Perfect match
Normally you want to stay over 75% of your subwoofer RMS. This sub is rated at 750watts RMS not 1000, misleading information from alpine. RMS is 4 times less the max power in this case 3000. With this amp rated at 500 you are only providing 67% of your sub rated RMS (750) and while it would thump I would get a bigger amp. The reason for this is because when you underpower a sub, trying to get louder you will send clipped signal. It is always better to get an amp either rated the same as the sub or more, that way you will have more room left letting your amp work cooler and insuring your signal is clear.
Yes it'll run fine and sound good, but will get a good amount louder and sound great if you put 1000 rms to it.
Can you run 100Wx4 @4-ohm AND 500W @2-ohm?.. my sub is 4-ohm dvc and my door speakers are 4 ohm. [ Dylan Dec 25, 2016 ]
Yes you can run the sub at 2 ohm and the door speakers at 4 ohm, that is exactly what I did, i ran 4 alpine type r 61/2' @ 4ohm and a alpine type r 8' sub 2 ohm.
No I returned this for a fosgate t 1000 4 chanel to do that. Happy new year
will this amp work with speaker level input? What Is File Manager Gold
[ sid Oct 24, 2016 ]
inputs are RCA only. Manual does not say anything about speaker inputs.
Looking for some advice on how to set the switches on the back, I am tapping off 1 channel from my stock HU, im running a set components in my front door, coaxials in the rear and a slim line sub, anyone know the best settings for the switches, HP BP OFF, ×1, ×10? Im new to this and can't get my head round it. Business Manager Gold
[ Dan Sep 26, 2016 ]
This setting means the High Pass filter frequency cut off, so if really depends on what channels you are running on this output and what speakers. If the speakers have their own crossovers simply leave it off or set it to a high value to protect the speakers from blowing at high volume.
Will this run 2 alpine shallows at 300-600 rms 4 ohms? [ Coble Aug 09, 2016 ]
This amp would not run 2 shallow subwoofers that have the RMS watt range you listed. Each subwoofer would get 250 watts and that's lower than the 300 minimum that you indicated your subwoofers need. But we have amps that can and shallow subwoofers that will run on this amp. Feel free to call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101
Will this be able to power a single rockford fosgate P3 12 inch dual that comes wired at 1 ohm and can take up to 600 Rms or will I have to get a monoblock? I want to avoid having all of those wires and two separate amps as much as possible. Thanks. [ Luis Jul 27, 2016 ]
The Alpine amp is not 1 Ohm stable so, no, you cannot power the Rockford's 1 Ohm impedance with this amplifier.I hope that helps. My Bio:http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
Will the PDX-V9 move a Rockford Fosgate P2-2X12 on the sub channel as it comes pre wired at 1 ohm load, or will it need the get rewired at 4 ohms using serial on the double voice coils of each speaker and parallel on the two speakers for a final 4 ohm load Also will it be powerful enough to move those two p2's at 4 ohms? Thanks [ Luis Mar 13, 2016 ]
Well mine is running a set of kicker comps 12 and 2 sets of Polk miss and tweets sounds good but if your looking uber bump it's not the amp you want
It can move rms 500 watts on 4 and 2 ohm on the sub channel..I have an alpine type-r 15' hooked up and it hits really nice
Looking to set this up with a stock HU, LC2I, Polk Audio db6501, and a JL 12W6V3. The manual doesn't describe the scenario where I only output to channel in an unbridged configuration - the Polks are only rated 100W RMS. I have two options the way I see it:1. Run off channels 1 and 2 to the L/R for the Polks. (there is a crossover for the woofer/tweeter)2. Run from all four channels, two for woofers, two for tweeters and use the amp as a crossover.Which option is the best for me? Why? [ Aorel Jan 11, 2016 ]
Enter an answerI would do the following assuming you have front and rear full range speaker locations in your car.- Will you want to use the fader in the factory head unit? If so, then run the Audiocontrol unit off the front OEM speaker channels to the PDX-V9, and run the rear speaker channels in stock connection configuration like nothing was added.- If you run it this way, then you would run two main RCA channels from the Audiocontrol to the PDX-V9, then using the selectable input switches on the PDX, run 4 + 1 channel out to the Polk mids, tweets, and JL subwoofer. All 4 channels will provide a dedicated 100W RMS to each midrange and each tweeter. - This would eliminate the need for the passive crossover that came with the Polks. That is normally fine as passive crossovers from the lower price point speaker sets are nothing special. The active crossover in the Alpine PDX-V9 will provide better sound quality and more precise tuning over crossover points and gain settings. The only disadvantage is you will not know the EXACT crossover points. For this, you will need an o-scope or RTA meter to measure where the roll off frequencies will be. For starters, shoot for somewhere in the 3-4K range for low pass midrange and high pass tweeters. I tried looking up the crossover values built into your Polks, but could only find the -12dB value and not the frequency.- For the subwoofer channel, you have two choices:1) Run the RCA 'bass' channels from the Audiocontrol to the subwoofer channel input on the Alpine. This way, you can play with the 'Accubass' to see if it is worth the hype.2) Ignore the RCA 'bass' channels from the Audiocontrol and have the Alpine control all bass functions. If so, I HIGHLY recommend investing $30-$50 for the RUX-KNOB. It easily mounts anywhere and uses a phone cable to connect to an input port on the PDX-V9. When plugged in, it overrides the gain control for the sub channel and allows you to adjust subwoofer volume on the fly. to this question.
I had mine professional installed, I'm not sure how they set it up. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
Well if externally from the amp there is a crossover from the woofer to tweeter I would run that off the amp..basically the amp has 5 channels a front left/right a rear left/right and a sub channel each output 100watts..if your only running the 2 speakers off the amp with the sub I would just bridge 1-4 to make only 2 channel output and hook the speakers up that way..the speakers will handle the power and you'll just have to make sure you don't over gain the amp..as long as you don't over gain you won't be over feeding the speakers..also depending on the size of your Polk speakers you may want to set the crossover for them off the amp because it will make the music clearer..I would not run a separate channel to the tweeters because the crossover doesn't cover the ranges you need to cut low levels out also you would need a way to feed signal the same as the other speaker so you would need an rca splitter..all that being said..you should just bridge and run to the speakers with an in-line crossover between the woofer and tweeter and make sure you adjust your gain settings correctly
I would use one channel per component speaker (woofer and tweeter) because the RMS rating is for the entire component speaker system not for each individual component (i.e tweeter + woofer + crossover = RMS).
Does this amplifier have speaker level in through RCA? In the manual it states 'If using speaker input level signal from the head unit, remote turn-on lead connection is not necessary due to automatic signal detection' However input sensitivity is rated at 0.2-4v which is too low for speaker level input.I installed it with line converters, but then it doesn't automatically turn on. [ Chris Jul 04, 2015 ]
I Honestly have no idea, I took my stuff into a guy and he hooked everything up and set up specific settings based on what type of sound I told him I wanted.
Do the speaker plugs go in + up or - up? They fit both ways.. [ Wibsbar Jan 31, 2015 ]
I had it professionally installed, I didn't hook it up.
Dosen't matter, the amp internally adjusts the polarity to be correct. The only thing I did to be consistent was to put all the plugs the same way. Don't think it mattered, was more of an ocd thing.
They go either way didn't matter this is a killer little amp it learns to power what way you plug them in really. Neat amp it will get louder as you go
Either way, the negative makes its connection on the outside of the plug.
It does not matter which way you put the plugs in i put all mine + up..i dont even think it matters if they all go the same direction but to be safe i would put all in the same direction
It doesn't matter as long as you match your positive wire to the + and the negative wire to the - . The outside of the plug supplies one of the signals while the inside of the plug supplies the other. Similar to how RCA cables work. If your truly interested in which signal goes where, use a continuity tester.
It doesn't matter. The Amp will auto-sense the polarity once the connector is attached to the Amp. Just connect everything with everything off.
That's the nice thing about these amps. They can be plugged in either way without any problems. I don't remember which way I did mine, but they're all facing the same way just to look nice.
Whats the lowest guage speaker wire this amp accept? [ steffon Jun 24, 2014 ]
I use 14g for the speaker wire and 10g for the sub wire.
I had it installed at a shop, i don't know what size wire they used. I don't know what the lowest gauge wire the amp will accept.
4 ga
I just bought this and i do believe i am running 8 gauge to my sub from on..the holes for each speaker output are pretty big and should handle 6 gauge maybe 4
You can use 14 gauge easy . I have even used 8 gauge on mono amp for speakers and the plugs are the same for the whole PDX line
Music Manager Gold
4 gauge
Anyone using this amp's sub channel with a JL 13TW5V2-4 (250-600 watts RMS)? I'm an old school PPI guy, and I've never owned an Alpine amp (yet). [ Daniel Apr 29, 2014 ]
